ABOUT MAHIA
Master Distiller David Nahmias is a former computer-software engineer and heir to the Nahmias family legacy. Raised in the small Moroccan town of Taznakht, his parents, Joseph and Tamou, and grandparents Saada and Moshe, distilled the fabled Nahmias family Mahia. Following the Jewish exodus from the region, his dad became legendary for being the last Jew to remain in Taznakht, where he kept the recipe alive.
It was travel that turned Dorit Nahmias, president and co-founder, into a gourmand. She once worked in finance, but today she’s an eco-mom with three children. Her passion for green living extends to the distillery, where she oversees production of the Nahmias et Fils’ Mahia.
Today, the Nahmias family recipe lives on in David and Dorit. They proudly handcraft small batches of Mahia in the Hudson Valley with the finest, natural ingredients. At least 6 pounds of carefully selected California figs are distilled into each 750 ml bottle. A sense of cultural history, much love, and a touch of anise bring this spirit to life.
